From the mediaeval period through to today, passing through Jewish legacy, the Renaissance and Modernism, the mediaeval villages in the Empordà have a history that has left its marks on the territory, providing a testimony to the passage of time.
One of the most characteristic points of interest in the mediaeval city of Besalú is, without a doubt, the fortified bridge over the river; while the old centre of Pals is worth a visit for its Romanesque circular tower, the Torre de les Hores. In Sant Pere de Peratallada there is a very well-preserved ancient fortified centre. In Peralada, we recommend strolling through its narrow streets, visiting the museums, the cloister of Sant Domènec and the impressive Casino-Castle that bears its name. By visiting the inland part of the Alt Empordà, you will be able to discover and admire remains of its splendid mediaeval past.
